Amazon introduces CodeWhisperer as an AI code-writing tool for engineers and developers

Amazon on Thursday announced a tool designed to help software developers write code, the tech industry’s latest such effort.

The service, called Amazon CodeWhisperer, suggests how to code and also scans for security and bias issues in web developer projects, Swami Sivasubramanian, a vice president of Amazon’s cloud division, said at a corporate conference in Las Vegas.

Amazon’s newly launched CodeWhisperer is a machine learning (ML) based service. It claims to help in increasing developer productivity by generating code recommendations. According to that information These recommendations, provided by AWS, are based on the natural language comments of the developers and their code in the integrated development environment (IDE).

CodeWhisperer claims to take care of all needs of a developer while writing code spanning multiple programming languages, frameworks, software libraries, and popular cloud services. The algorithm selects the user’s command and selects the best cloud service and public libraries suitable for the given task. It then recommends a code snippet directly in the source code editor.

The AI ​​algorithm is available for free in preview in the programming languages ​​Java, JavaScript and Python. The service integrates with multiple IDEs, including JetBrains (IntelliJ, PyCharm, and WebStorm), Visual Studio Code, AWS Cloud9, and the AWS Lambda console.

In addition, developers can also protect their codes by using CodeWhisperer to detect vulnerabilities in their projects and build applications responsibly.

The company also announced that support for the AWS Lambda console is currently in the works and should be ready very soon.
