Android Auto for Mobile Screens app will be pulled down; Replaced by Google Assistant Driving mode: report

Google has started removing the Android Auto screen from phones after about seven years, according to a report. Back in August last year, Google confirmed that the standalone Android Auto for Phone Screens application would be shut down starting with Android 12. Earlier this month, a pop-up message reportedly appeared for some users stating that Android Auto for phones screens will soon stop working. At the time, Google hadn’t given the date of the closure, but reports of the disappearance are now pouring in.

The application was launched in 2015 and is now coming to an end around seven years later. The report added that Google Assistant Driving Mode will be Android Auto’s replacement for phone screens. The move is reportedly being called an attempt to put users in Google Assistant driving mode.

In August 2021, Google had announced in a statement that starting with Android 12, the tech giant will move users who want a phone experience to Google Assistant Driving Mode. Google’s Driving Mode is a built-in mobile driving experience.

A recent report states that the Android Auto for Phone Screens application, used to preserve Android Auto functionality for older cars, has been shut down. According to the report, a pop-up message had appeared in Android Auto for Phone Screens applications stating that the feature will stop working soon. At the time, Google hadn’t provided any details or the exact date of the shutdown.

Google recently announced that the company will release a number of new features for Android Auto later in 2022. Features could include a new user interface and support for suggested replies based on Google Assistant’s suggestions.
