Apple released a minor iPhone software update on Thursday to fix an issue iPhone users have been struggling with since iOS 15.4 hit devices. Users complained on forums, Reddit, social media platforms, and Apple support channels that their iPhones’ batteries were draining abnormally quickly after updating to iOS 15.4. With the update, Apple now says the problem is fixed, along with some accessibility issues.
Here are Apple’s brief release notes for the update:
This update includes the following fixes for your iPhone:
- The battery may drain faster than expected after updating to iOS 15.4
- Braille devices may become unresponsive while navigating text or displaying a warning
- Made-for-iPhone hearing aids may lose connection in some 3rd party apps
Thursday’s update comes about two weeks after the launch of the new iPhone SE and iOS 15.4, which was likely the last major feature update before iOS 16. iOS 15.4 gave users the ability to use Face ID while wearing a face mask, introduced a gender-neutral American English voice for Siri, and added a plethora of new emojis, among other things.
Apple also released iPadOS 15.4.1, watchOS 8.5.1 and tvOS 15.4.1. Bug fixes and security updates are big parts of today’s operating system updates, but they also add support for Apple’s Business Essentials program. Apple calls Business Essentials “a complete subscription that seamlessly brings together device management, 24/7 support, and cloud storage.”
