BioShock High School Musical Wins Show Choir Competition

A BioShock-based musical by California’s John Burroughs High School Powerhouse Choir has won the Hart Encore 2022 show choir competition.

The choir performed a series of songs that together tell the story of Rapture, the iconic underwater city from the first part of the game series.

The likes of Andrew Ryan, Brigid Tenenbaum and Sander Cohen are all there, singing classics like Proud Mary – the lyrics naturally switched to “rolling under the water”.

The performance swept the board at the competition, winning the biggest awards: musicianship, showmanship and best soloist.

While it doesn’t follow the game’s plot, it features fantastic costumes reminiscent of the game’s 1950s art deco setting. And of course the singing is excellent, along with the musical theater arrangements.

Just don’t expect big daddies.

However, it proves that BioShock’s rich dystopian setting is ripe for a full musical adaptation. After all, there is already one
