Blizzard quietly edits Overwatch skin to remove Z logo

Overwatch character Zarya has had a minor edit to remove a “Z” logo on her character model.

Developer Blizzard has yet to comment on the change, although fans have noticed that the “Z” is now gone in the game’s latest update (thanks, PC Gamer).

It is not difficult to guess why this change has occurred now. Recently co-opted by pro-Putin Russian citizens, the “Z” symbol has been emblazoned on military vehicles currently involved in the country’s devastating invasion of Ukraine.

The connection is perhaps more obvious in the case of Zarya due to the character’s own fictional Russian heritage. We’ve contacted Blizzard for more information.
