CD Projekt’s The Witcher 4 announced that it would use Unreal Engine 5

The Witcher games aren’t finished yet. Polish video game maker CD Projekt announced Monday that work has begun on its next high-budget game in the The Witcher franchise.

Details on the development period or release date of The Witcher 4 were not given.

The medieval fantasy series debuted in 2007 and its latest game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, premiered in 2015 to critical acclaim and helped the Polish studio gain global recognition.

The Witcher franchise sold over 50 million copies last year, according to CD Projekt.

However, the company has had a bumpy time since after a bug-ridden debut of its second planned franchise in late 2020, Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt also announced a technology partnership with Epic Games on Monday, saying that the new Witcher game will be developed using Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 creation platform.

The partnership with Epic Games includes licensing, technical development of Unreal Engine 5 and potential future versions of Unreal Engine, it said.

CD Projekt has been using its own development engine to create games since 2011 and said it will continue to use it to develop the upcoming Cyberpunk expansion.

The Witcher 4 will likely be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
