Last year, Crypto.com inked a $700 million sponsorship deal with the Lakers, becoming the second crypto exchange startup after FTX to sponsor a title for one of the most iconic arenas in US esports, the NBA. Just four months after the deal with The Lakers, Crypto.com announced its largest sponsorship to date.
Today, Crypto.com announced that it has signed a sponsorship deal with the FIFA World Cup Tournament 2022. Football’s world governing body also confirmed the sponsorship in a statement on Tuesday. The cost and length of the sponsorship has not been disclosed, but comes after a series of high-profile endorsement deals by the cryptocurrency exchange
As part of the agreement, Singapore-based Crypto.com will be the exclusive cryptocurrency trading platform for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which runs from November 21 to December 18.
In November 2021, Crypto.com acquired the naming rights to the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, formerly known as Staples Center, now known as Crypto.com Arena.
In a press release published on the FIFA website, Crypto.com says that it is the fastest growing cryptocurrency platform in the world and has over 10 million customers.
“Crypto.com has already demonstrated its commitment to supporting top teams and leagues, major events and iconic venues around the world, and there is no platform bigger or with greater reach and cultural impact than the global one Football platform of FIFA. ‘ said Kay Madati, FIFA’s Chief Commercial Officer, in the press release.
As a result of the sponsorship, the Crypto.com brand will be visible inside and outside the arena. Crypto.com will also host contests where users can win tickets to games during the tournament and sell branded items.
Sports sponsorship has been an important part of Crypto’s history. The first major incident was in 2014 when Dogecoin users raised $55,000 to sponsor NASCAR driver Josh Wise for the GEICO 400 at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.
