Details showing a leaked build of Duke Nukem Forever – as it was at E3 2001 – have surfaced online.
The leak comes from a person (or people) known only as “x0r” who shared inside information as well as a video and screenshots.
According to this source, every chapter of the game still exists in “some form”, with a large portion of them playable. “All the E3 content is here,” x0r explained (via Duke4.net).
As for the weapons, all are functional except for the freezer and chainsaw. I don’t know why these two. x0r also said that Shrink Ray is in play and yes, I now imagine it being used by Despicable Me’s Gru.
x0r shared that they will be leaking the entire game in “June” (at least fully in the sense that what is there will be leaked since the game itself was never really finished).
When that time comes, however, don’t expect to interact or even see Bombshell. According to x0r, her model has been deleted. Same can nearly being said for the strippers since apparently “at the point in the game that was recorded most of them are dead”.
You can check out the leaked gameplay below.
However, keep your expectations in check for June. In response to this leak, the game’s original director, George Broussard, had this to say:
“Yes, the leak looks real. No, I’m not really interested in talking about it or revisiting a painful past.
“They should severely dampen expectations. There is no real game to play. Just a few, sparsely occupied test levels. I have no idea who leaked that.”
Yes, the leak looks real. No, I’m not really interested in talking about it or coming to terms with a painful past. You should severely dampen expectations. There is no real game to play. Just a fraction of sparsely populated test tiers. I don’t know who leaked this.
