Farhan Akhtar appears in the Ms Marvel series, out June 8 on Disney+ Hotstar

Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar will appear in Mrs Miracle, the first Muslim superhero series from Marvel Studios. The Disney+ show will be the first Hollywood project for Akhtar, who is known for starring in hits like Rock On!, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Dil Dhadakne Do. Akhtar has also directed critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, Don and Don 2.

According to Deadline, who first reported on the casting, the details of his character are in Mrs Miracle have been kept under wraps although it is said to be a guest appearance. The 48-year-old actor also shared in a post on Twitter that he’s joining the cast of Ms Marvel.

Mrs Miracle will premiere June 8 on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming service, where it will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages. It is part of the blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is fronted by newcomer Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Kamala Khan Mrs Miraclea Muslim-American teenager growing up in Jersey City.

Kamala is an avid gamer and voracious fan fiction writer with oversized imaginations – especially when it comes to gaming Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson in the MCU).

“Nonetheless, Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit into school and sometimes even home until she gets superpowers like her idols,” reads the official storyline.

Bad Boys for Life bosses Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Oscar winner in the documentary category, and Meera Menon, who has worked on shows like The Walking Dead, are directing episodes of the series guided .

Bisha K Ali, a writer and stand-up comedian known for her personal political comedy, serves as the lead writer on the project.

The cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha.
