Electronic Arts has confirmed the development of an Iron Man video game. In a blog post, the publisher announced that its Montreal-based EA Motive Studio is working on a single-player, third-person action-adventure game based on the titular Marvel superhero. The Iron Man title, now in early development, will feature an original narrative that “taps into Iron Man’s rich history and channels the personalities of armored hero and charismatic genius Tony Stark.” Currently there is no word on what platforms will be supported when the game releases.
“It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic superheroes in entertainment today,” said Olivier Proulx, Executive Producer. “We have an amazing opportunity to create a new and unique story to call our own. Marvel encourages us to create something new. We have a lot of freedom, which is very exciting for the team.” Proulx, who previously worked on the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is leading development of the upcoming Iron Man game.
The announcement aligns with a previous leak that stated EA was working on the said video game. While there are no concrete plot details, the description suggests that the game serves as a lens for Stark’s complexity and “charisma”. That said, there’s a decent chance such moments will be scripted, given Proulx’s experiences that involved linear storytelling. At this point, who knows. Hopefully we’ll be able to play as Stark while he’s being held in his lab – similar to how WB Games Montréal is bringing its ensemble characters into the upcoming Gotham Knights game.
Motive Studio is currently actively working on a Dead Space remake that is slated for a January 2023 launch. That blog entries Ende also notes other collaborative projects between Marvel and EA. “This is an exciting new collaboration between Marvel and Electronic Arts, with Iron Man being the first of several new games.” This could very well be related to the open world Black Panther Game leaked in July.
Internal, that Black Panther The game will be billed as Project Rainer, with former Monolith Productions Vice President Kevin Stephens leading development. According to games journalist Jeff Grubb, after Black Panther’s death, the premise is set at the beginning. Players are then tasked with completing a series of challenges – or trials – in hopes of becoming the new incarnation and king of Wakanda.
There are currently no details on a release window or platforms for EA’s Iron Man game as it is still in the early stages of development. But we could speculate that the game will be released on all major platforms – PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Windows PC.
