The nation of Israel was subjected to a massive cyber attack on Monday. Israeli newspaper Haaretz first reported on the cyberattack, citing a “Defence Ministry source” who claimed it was the worst attack to ever hit the Jewish state. The Israeli authorities believe that a state actor or a large organization was responsible.

The Israel Defense Institute claims that the attack hit all websites using the “.GOV.IL” domain, which serves all Israeli government websites except those owned by the Defense Institute.

The websites of Israel’s interior, health, justice and social affairs ministries and the prime minister’s office were also taken offline on Monday in what a defense source said was the largest-ever cyberattack against Israel. Cyber experts said the government database is one such site and a potential target for cybercriminals.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) cyber army is suspected of being behind the attack. Interestingly, Iran International’s Twitter page reported. “#BREAKING The Israeli government website is currently down due to a suspected cyber attack by the IRGC cyber army, according to @haaretzcom editor @avi Scharf.”
