Need for Speed Unbound: EA hints at the reveal of a new NFS game this week

| |

The next Need for Speed game could be revealed this week. In response to a tweet questioning the legitimacy of the next entry in the NFS franchise, the publisher tweeted the side-eye emoji, hinting at a big announcement. The speculation follows an earlier report by journalist Tom Henderson, who claimed that a new entry, titled “Need for Speed Unbound,” is due out on December 2. The title will be available exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X alongside a PC version for the console version.

Games journalist Jeff Grubb confirmed the report on his GiantBomb Podcast, which affirms the name and launch window, and states that a reveal is imminent this week. As with Henderson original report, Need for Speed Unbound will receive an approximately 1 minute and 30 second trailer with a soundtrack by American rapper A$AP Rocky. The upcoming NFS game is also being touted as heavily multiplayer oriented and will bring a new feature called Meetups. The mode allows “people to compete against each other in different locations on the map” – a mode completely unique to the franchise.

Already in April reports emerged, and claims that the upcoming Need for Speed Unbound will adopt a photorealistic art style mixed with anime elements. “You know, when you see a car commercial or something and the car drives around, but then cartoon flames and something fly away? That’s the kind of aesthetic they seem to be aiming for,” Grubb said on his premier GiantBomb show.

These claims agreed leaked work-in-progress footage from August, which featured a car crashing into a circular obstacle, resulting in arcade-style animated elements like wings and a dead skull icon. Need for Speed Unbound was originally slated for a July reveal, but kept getting pushed back until a more concrete October date was reached. EA announced in February that it had returned NFS development responsibilities to Criterion Games – best known for the Burnout racing game franchise.

If the above claims are true, Need for Speed Unbound is slated to release on December 2nd on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
