Developer Jupiter has unveiled an eighth mainline installment in its mighty Picross puzzle series for Switch. The big news is multiplayer support for up to four players when it launches next week. Additionally, multiplayer and touchscreen support will reportedly be added to all previous Switch installments at the same time.
Picross S8, as this latest entry is called, follows the same familiar formula as its predecessors – each stage requires players to complete a picture on a grid by solving numerical clues that indicate which squares need to be filled in – gives the However, spice things up a bit by having four players put their heads together to tackle each challenge.
According to the official Picross site, it’s local multiplayer only (the trailer suggests there’s a score-based component, though everyone works together to solve the same puzzle), and each player needs their own controller to participate .
In total, Picross S8 will contain 485 new levels: 300 Picross and Mega Picross puzzles, 150 Clip Picross puzzles, 30 Color Picross puzzles and 5 Extra puzzles. Three additional puzzles will also be unlocked for Picross S4, Picross S5 and Picross S6 owners.
Picross S8 is coming to the Switch eShop next Thursday, September 29, where it will cost £8.99 / €9.99 / $8.99 USD. Nintendo Life reports that its release will be accompanied by an update for all previous Switch installments in the series, adding the same multiplayer and touchscreen support found in Picross S8.
