Russian long-range strategic bombers attack Ukraine for first time since war began | tech news

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine enters its seventh week. According to a report by Reuters, there were reports in western media that Russia is losing the war, even though over 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers have surrendered to Russian forces.

No one knows exactly what the actual situation is on the ground. One thing we do know, however, is that the war is now entering a new phase and it looks like Russia is finally getting serious.

For the first time since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Russian long-range strategic bombers have attacked various military targets in Kyiv, Ukraine. News of the bombing came at a time when China’s air and sea forces were conducting an exercise near Taiwan because the United States had given “wrong signals” about the island’s status, the Chinese army says.

In a statement on Friday, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said Russia’s Tupolev Tu-22M strategic bomber aircraft had dropped bombs over positions in the port city of Mariupol, confirming an earlier report by the Russian Defense Ministry (MoD).

“On April 14, two Russian Tu-95/-160 strategic heavy bombers fired cruise missiles that hit the territory of Ukraine from the airspace of Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation,” he said. “Also for the first time since the beginning of the armed aggression, bombs were dropped from a long-range Tu-22M3 bomber. This airstrike took place and hit Mariupol.”

In a separate report last night, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the remnants of Ukraine’s air force were being further destroyed by Russian precision missiles near Kyiv. The ministry added that a Kiev plant producing highly specialized missiles, including armament for BUK, S300, and the factory working on Ukrainian anti-ship missiles were completely destroyed by Russian attacks.

The deployment of long-range strategic bombers could signal the start of a new Russian strategy after the Kremlin recently admitted it has suffered more casualties than expected.

Military experts say the Tupolev Tu 22M backfire bomber poses a threat to the US Navy.
