Star Citizen, developer Cloud Imperium Games’ controversial space sim, has raised more than half a billion dollars in funding from donors.

Star Citizen’s protracted development has been well documented, with the game still in alpha more than a decade into production. And while it has attracted some private funding in that time, the overwhelming majority has come via crowdfunding, starting with a successful $2 million Kickstarter in 2012 and continuing from there.

To date, according to the Roberts Space Industries official website, Star Citizen has amassed $500,075,150 in crowdfunding from a total of 4,096,384 backers. His previous major milestone was $400 million
